ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING AS A FACTOR OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT
Abstract
The article explores modern approaches to combating money laundering in the context of a globalized economy, emphasizing the growing interdependence of financial systems and the increasing sophistication of illicit financial schemes. The role of anti-money laundering (AML) measures in ensuring transparency in international business, reducing financial crime risks, and increasing investor confidence is defined. The analysis of international standards, particularly the FATF recommendations and their implementation into national legislation, is provided, with special attention to the challenges faced by developing economies in aligning domestic regulatory frameworks with global requirements. It is established that effective AML measures contribute to enhancing countries’ investment attractiveness, minimizing financial risks, and creating conditions for sustainable business development. Emphasis is placed on the introduction of risk-based approaches, Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures, automated transaction monitoring technologies, and transparency of beneficial ownership, which together form a comprehensive mechanism for detecting suspicious operations. The article also highlights the importance of strengthening institutional capacity, improving cross-border data exchange, and developing advanced analytical tools, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, for detecting complex patterns of financial crimes. The findings demonstrate that effective anti-money laundering measures significantly improve the business climate, strengthen trust between international partners, and reduce operational and reputational risks for global companies. It is concluded that successful AML implementation requires coordinated international cooperation, technological innovation, continuous institutional development, and the active participation of both public and private sectors. The article underscores the need for harmonizing global regulatory standards, enhancing supervisory practices, and promoting financial literacy to ensure the long-term resilience and transparency of the international financial system.
